If you’re looking for a high-protein, creamy, and flavorful queso dip, this Cottage Cheese Queso with Tone’s Taco Seasoning is the perfect recipe. It’s a healthier alternative to traditional cheese-based dips while still delivering a rich, velvety texture and bold, Tex-Mex flavor.
This recipe starts with blending cottage cheese until smooth, transforming it into a creamy base that mimics the consistency of traditional queso. Then add the key ingredient, Tone’s® Taco Seasoning, which brings a perfectly balanced blend of spices, including chili peppers, Mexican oregano, onion, garlic salt and a hint of cayenne, which enhances the queso with a warm, zesty kick.
Pour the mixture into a saucepan and cook over medium heat. Add the shredded cheese of your choice and stir the mixture until the cheese is melted. We suggest shredding your own cheese- it may sound like a tedious step, but it makes a big difference! Pre-shredded cheese often had additives like cellulose powder, potato starch, and calcium sulfate to prevent clumping and extend shelf life. These additives can effect the way the cheese tastes and the way it melts. Freshly shredded cheese tends to have a creamier taste, which is perfect for this creamy Cottage Cheese Queso recipe.
If you’re in a time crunch, you can also cook the queso in the microwave. Instead of pouring the blended cottage cheese and Tone’s® Taco Seasoning in a saucepan, add it to a microwave safe bowl, add the shredded cheese and microwave in 30 second increments, stirring every 30 seconds.
Once the cheese is melted and well combined, you’re ready to serve! Pour into a serving bowl and top with tomatoes, cilantro, jalapeños, red onion, or more. Serve with tortilla chips, fresh veggies, or add to our Tone’s® Deluxe Nachos recipe.
