Eggnog Espresso Martini

Espresso martinis are really having a moment – and we are here to make them even more spectacular!  This Eggnog Espresso Martini adds a festive touch to the popular cocktail.  When you top it with a Spice Islands® Cinnamon Stick, you have a cozydrink that’s the perfect way to ring in the holiday season!

When it comes to eggnog, you can use store-bought (we know the holidays are incredibly busy, after all), or if you want to go all out, try making it homemade!

Homemade Eggnog

Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for making eggnog at home:

Ingredients:

  • Egg Yolks: 6 large
  • Sugar: ¾ cup (150g)
  • Whole Milk: 2 cups (480ml)
  • Heavy Cream: 1 cup (240ml)
  • Vanilla Extract: 1 teaspoon
  • Nutmeg: ½ teaspoon (plus extra for garnish)
  • Alcohol (optional): ½ to 1 cup of rum, bourbon, or brandy

Instructions:

  1. Whisk Egg Yolks and Sugar:
    • In a large mixing bowl, whisk the egg yolks and sugar together until the mixture is creamy and pale.
  2. Heat the Milk Mixture:
    • In a saucepan, combine milk, cream, vanilla extract, and nutmeg. Warm over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until steaming (do not let it boil).
  3. Temper the Eggs:
    • Slowly pour a ladle of the warm milk mixture into the egg mixture while whisking constantly. Repeat this step until the egg mixture is warmed.
  4. Cook the Eggnog:
    • Pour the tempered egg mixture back into the saucepan. Heat over low to medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens slightly and coats the back of a spoon. Do not boil, as this can curdle the eggs.
  5. Cool and Add Alcohol (Optional):
    • Remove from heat, and let it cool slightly. Stir in the alcohol if using.
  6. Chill:
    • Transfer the eggnog to a pitcher or bowl, cover, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to chill.
  7. Serve:
    • Serve cold, garnished with a sprinkle of nutmeg. For a frothy texture, you can whisk egg whites to soft peaks and fold them into the chilled eggnog before serving.
