Deviled eggs are nothing new…unless they’re this scrumptious guacamole version! Avocado + guacamole seasonings add a nice layer of flavor and texture to this classic crowd-pleasing appetizer. In particular, Member’s Mark™ Dried Cilantro adds a more subdued (but still tasty) flavor than fresh cilantro – plus it has a much longer shelf life!
Dried Cilantro vs. Fresh Cilantro
The flavor of dried cilantro is quite different from fresh:
-
Mild & muted – much less bright than fresh cilantro
-
Slightly earthy – with a faint grassy note
-
Subtly citrusy – but not as zesty or sharp as fresh
-
A little musty/herbal – especially if it’s been stored a while
Compared to fresh cilantro (which is bold, citrusy, and almost peppery), dried cilantro is more subdued and less complex. It tends to blend into dishes rather than stand out.
Best uses:
-
Mixed into soups, stews, or sauces
-
Seasoning blends or rubs
-
Dishes where it can rehydrate (like rice or beans)
Not ideal for:
-
Garnishes
-
Salsas or fresh toppings (where that bright pop matters)
