Grilled chicken sandwiches – a classic summertime staple. They’re everything you could ask for in a warm weather meal – they’re healthy (for the most part, if you don’t add toooo much mayo), they’re easy to make, and you can add whatever toppings you’d like! You may be wondering why we’re sharing such a simple recipe, but we must ask – have you ever tried Weber® Steak ‘n Chop™ Seasoning on your CHICKEN sandwich?
That is right, Weber® Steak ‘n Chop™ Seasoning makes an excellent partner with your go-to chicken sandwich. The blend of flavors is surprisingly perfect for poultry, and once you try it, we don’t think you’ll ever want to go back to plain chicken again!
Speaking of more flavor, we fully support grilled vegetables in the summer. While we might not do the best job of getting our required daily value of vegetables in the winter, they are so much easier to eat in the summer when they’re grilled! Weber® Ultimate Garlic Seasoning tastes wonderful on grilled asparagus, and adds SO much flavor. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even try Weber® Steak ‘n Chop™ Seasoning on your asparagus! Either way, you can’t go wrong.
Since we’ve provided a pretty basic grilled chicken sandwich and asparagus recipe for you, we thought we’d give you some other options to make them even more exciting!
Additional bread options for your sandwich include:
- Brioche Bun: Brioche buns are rich and buttery, with a slightly sweet flavor. They have a soft texture that pairs nicely with grilled chicken and adds a touch of indulgence to your sandwich.
- Ciabatta: Ciabatta bread is crusty on the outside and soft and airy on the inside. It has a rustic texture and a mild flavor that won’t overpower the taste of the grilled chicken.
- Whole Wheat or Multigrain Bun: For a healthier option, consider using whole wheat or multigrain buns. These buns are hearty and nutritious, providing a nutty flavor and a substantial texture that complements the grilled chicken well.
- Kaiser Roll: Kaiser rolls are soft and slightly chewy with a sturdy crust, making them an excellent choice for holding grilled chicken and any toppings or condiments without becoming too soggy.
- Focaccia: Focaccia bread is soft and pillowy with a slightly crisp crust. It has a savory flavor and can be seasoned with herbs and olive oil, adding an extra layer of flavor to your grilled chicken sandwich.
- Whole Grain Bread: Whole grain breads offer a hearty and wholesome base for grilled chicken sandwiches. They have a nutty flavor and a dense texture that pairs well with the grilled chicken and any additional toppings.
Additional toppings for your sandwich include:
- Red Onion: Thinly sliced red onion adds a sharp, tangy flavor and a bit of crunch to balance the other ingredients.
- Avocado: Creamy slices of avocado or guacamole provide richness and a smooth texture to complement the grilled chicken.
- Bacon: Crispy bacon adds smoky flavor and a satisfying crunch to your sandwich.
- Cheese: Melted cheese such as cheddar, Swiss, provolone, or pepper jack takes your grilled chicken sandwich to the next level of cheesy goodness.
- Pickles: Tangy dill or bread and butter pickles add a zesty kick and a satisfying crunch to your sandwich.
- Caramelized Onions: Sweet and savory caramelized onions lend depth of flavor and a hint of sweetness to your grilled chicken sandwich.
- Roasted Bell Peppers: Roasted bell peppers add a smoky-sweet flavor and vibrant color to your sandwich.
- Sautéed Mushrooms: Tender, savory mushrooms bring earthy flavor and a meaty texture to your grilled chicken sandwich.
- Sliced Jalapeños: For a spicy kick, add thinly sliced jalapeños or other hot peppers to your sandwich.
Weber® Steak 'n Chop™ Grilled Chicken Sandwich with Weber® Ultimate Garlic Asparagus
Ingredients
For the Grilled Chicken Sandwich
- 1 tsp Weber® Steak 'n Chop™ Seasoning
- 4 Member's Mark™ Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts
- 8 slices Sourdough bread, toasted
- 4 slices Tomato
- Lettuce, as needed
- Mayonnaise, if desired
For the Grilled Asparagus
- 1 lb Asparagus spears (about 32 thin spears)
- 1 tbsp Member's Mark™ Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 1½ tbsp Balsamic vinegar
- 1 tbsp Weber® Ultimate Garlic Seasoning
Instructions
For the Grilled Chicken Sandwich
- Sprinkle 1 tablespoon Weber® Steak 'n Chop™ Seasoning over both sides of the chicken breasts. Grill chicken over Direct High heat, with the lid closed as much as possible, for 6 to 8 minutes until browned.
- Turn and grill an additional 6 to 8 minutes until chicken is cooked through and internal temperature is at least 170°F. Remove chicken from grill and let rest 5 minutes.
- Serve chicken with toasted sourdough, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise, if desired.
For the Grilled Asparagus
- Rinse the asparagus and cut off the woody ends.
- In a large dish, season the asparagus with Member's Mark™ Extra Virgin Olive Oil, vinegar, and Weber® Ultimate Garlic Seasoning. Toss with your hands so the spears are well-coated.
- If you have time, let the asparagus marinate at least an hour. If not, it's fine to cook right away! If you're ready to cook, preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
- Remove the asparagus from the marinade (be sure to reserve marinade for later). Place the asparagus in a grill basket (this is the easiest way to cook so they don't fall through the grates). Grill the asparagus for 3-8 minutes (depending on the thickness of your asparagus and the heat of your grill), turning occasionally, until they are tender. A light char will add even more flavor!
- When you're done grilling, toss the asparagus back into the dish with the vinegar to add even more flavor, then serve!
