This Homemade Bagels recipe is a must-try for anyone craving fresh, bakery-style bagels made right at home. This easy breakfast or brunch recipe yields 8 delicious bagels with a chewy interior and golden, glossy crust- perfect for serving with cream cheese, lox, breakfast sandwiches, or sweet and savory spreads.
The recipe begins by blooming Bellarise® Instant Dry Yeast in warm water with Member’s Mark™ Granulated Sugar, creating the foundation for a perfectly risen dough. Member’s Mark™ Bread & Pizza Flour and Member’s Mark™ Sea Salt are then mixed in to form a soft, elastic dough that’s kneaded until smooth and allowed to rise for about 90 minutes.
Once shaped into classic bagel rings, the dough is briefly rested before being boiled in a baking soda bath made with Arm & Hammer™ Pure Baking Soda and Member’s Mark™ Wildflower Pure Premium Honey. This essential step gives homemade bagels their signature chewy texture and shiny exterior once baked.
Before baking at 425°F, each bagel is brushed with an egg wash and topped as desired. One of the best parts of this recipe is the endless topping possibilities. Go classic with Einstein Bros.™ Everything Bagel Seasoning, or get creative with combinations like shredded cheese and jalapeño, Weber® Roasted Garlic & Herb Seasoning, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or even cinnamon sugar for a sweet twist.

Homemade Bagels
Ingredients
Homemade Bagels
- 1 ⅓ cup Warm water
- 2 ¼ tsp Bellarise® Instant Dry Yeast
- 1 tbsp Member's Mark™ Granulated Sugar
- 3 ½ cups Member's Mark™ Bread & Pizza Flour
- 1 tsp Member's Mark™ Sea Salt
Baking Soda Bath
- 8 cups Boiling water
- 1 tbsp Arm & Hammer™ Pure Baking Soda
- 1 tbsp Member’s Mark™ Wildflower Pure Premium Honey
Egg Wash
- 1 Egg
- 1 tbsp Water
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together warm water, Bellarise® Instant Dry Yeast, and Member's Mark™ Granulated Sugar. Once combined, let sit for 10 minutes or until the mixture looks foamy.
- Add in Member's Mark™ Bread & Pizza Flour and Member's Mark™ Sea Salt and mix together with clean, dry hands until the dough forms. Turn the dough out on a lightly floured counter and knead the dough with your hands until it's soft and smooth.
- Shape the dough into a ball and place it into a large greased bowl. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rest for 90 minutes. Warmer spots will result in a faster rise time (about 60 minutes).
- Once the dough has doubled in size, preheat your oven to 425'F. Prep a large baking sheet lined with a silicone baking mat.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball on an unfloured surface. Create a hole in each ball using your thumb and pointer finger, so it's bagel shaped. Place onto prepped baking sheet. Let bagels rest for 10 minutes.
- While bagels rest, prepare the baking soda and honey bath. Bring a large pot of water, Arm & Hammer™ Pure Baking Soda, and Member’s Mark™ Wildflower Pure Premium Honey to a boil.
- Place 3 bagels into the boiling baking soda and honey bath and leave in for one minute per side- don't leave in any longer. The bagels will puff up.
- Remove each bagel with a slotted spatula and place back onto the baking sheet. Repeat with each bagel until they've all gone in the baking soda and honey bath.
- Mix together egg wash mixture by whisking one egg and water. Brush on the egg mixture and sprinkle your desired toppings (Einstein Bros.™ Everything Bagel Seasoning, cheese, etc.).
- Bake for 20-25 minutes on the middle rack of your oven. Let cool for 5 minutes before moving to a cooling rack. Once cooled, serve or keep in a sealed container at room temperature.
