Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings and Homemade Garlic Ranch

When you think of chicken wings, you might be thinking about people sitting around on the couch, watching football, with a big plate of wings on their lap.  While this may be a valid scene during football season, we have a suggestion for you – what about wings for your main course?  These Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings do serve a crowd (this recipe uses 3.5 lbs of wings), but it’s also enough for an actual meal.  Before you start wondering what to serve along with them, we have you covered!  Our Homemade Garlic Ranch recipe is perfect for dipping AND as a salad dressing or veggie dip.  You could even make some baked potatoes on the grill and drizzle the ranch on top of those, too!

Now that we’ve established that chicken wings are suitable for a meal, let’s take a moment to appreciate the simplicity of this wing recipe.  It requires 3 ingredients – and that’s it!  Wings are quite tasty on their own, plus our method of grilling ensures they’re extra crispy and mouthwatering.  All you need to do is hit them up with a little Member’s Mark™ Salt and Pepper, marinate them (overnight is recommended but not required), and grill them at a VERY high temp.

As for the Homemade Garlic Ranch, we’re pretty certain you’ll want to slather this flavorful dip on all of your favorite grilled foods!  If you’re looking for some more ideas of how to use your ranch (this recipe makes quite a lot), here’s some suggestions:

Dipping Sauce
– Serve with fresh vegetables like carrots, celery, bell peppers, and cherry tomatoes.
– Use as a dip for chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, or potato wedges.

Sandwich Spread

– Use it in place of mayonnaise or mustard in sandwiches or burgers.

Pizza Drizzle
– Drizzle ranch dressing over pizza for a creamy and tangy flavor.
– Great with buffalo chicken pizza or veggie pizza.

Potato Toppings
– Top baked potatoes with ranch dressing, bacon bits, and chives.
– Mix ranch dressing into mashed potatoes for a creamy twist.

Salad Enhancer
– Use as a dressing for traditional salads with mixed greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, and croutons.
– Make a pasta salad with ranch dressing, bacon, peas, and cheddar cheese.

Marinade or Sauce Base
– Use ranch dressing as a base for marinating chicken, pork, or seafood.
– Mix with hot sauce or barbecue sauce for a flavorful marinade or dipping sauce.

Potato Salad Dressing
– Use ranch dressing instead of mayonnaise in potato salad for a tangy twist.
– Add diced bacon and chives for extra flavor.

Grilled Vegetable Glaze
– Brush grilled vegetables with ranch dressing before serving for added flavor.
– Especially delicious with grilled corn on the cob or zucchini.

Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings and Homemade Garlic Ranch

Chicken wings don't need a whole lot of additional flavors - they taste great as they are! That's why this recipe uses simple Member's Mark™ Fine Ground Black Pepper and Member's Mark™ Sea Salt just to enhance the flavor that's already there! But we must admit...the fun part about eating wings is dipping them in some delicious sauce! That's where our Homemade Garlic Ranch comes into play (it also tastes great on salad and veggies, too)!

Ingredients

For the Chicken Wings

  • lbs Chicken wings
  • 2 tsp Member's Mark™ Sea Salt
  • 4 tsp Member's Mark™ Fine Ground Black Pepper

For the Homemade Garlic Ranch

  • 2 cups Mayonnaise
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • 1 small Onion, diced
  • ½ cup Vegetable oil
  • 2 Hardboiled eggs, diced
  • 5 tbsp Sour cream
  • 2 tbsp Member's Mark™ Parsley Flakes
  • 1 tbsp Member's Mark™ Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Member's Mark™ Fine Ground Black Pepper
  • 2 pinches Member's Mark™ Sea Salt

Instructions

For the Chicken Wings

  • Wash the chicken wings and pat dry. Place in a large mixing bowl. Sprinkle Member's Mark™ Sea Salt and Member's Mark™ Fine Ground Black Pepper over the wings and mix thoroughly with your hands.
  • Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 5 hours - even better if you let them marinate overnight! When the wings are done marinating, fire up your grill so it's very hot. If you have a thermometer on your grill, let it get all the way up to max heat.
  • Place the wings on the grill, topside down. After about 3-5 minutes, turn them 90 degrees to brown them evenly.
  • Close the grill to let them cook through, but only close the grill for 45-60 seconds at a time, as grease flare-ups can occur pretty easily with wings. When the top of the wing is thoroughly grilled (it will have golden, lightly crisped and charred skin), flip the wings.
  • Lower the heat to medium/medium high, and repeat these steps until the wings are cooked through, periodically closing the grill to let them cook through. Some wings will cook faster than others, so you can place those on indirect heat while the rest finish up.

For the Homemade Garlic Ranch

  • Whisk mayonnaise, buttermilk, onion, vegetable oil, eggs, sour cream, Member's Mark™ Parsley Flakes, Member's Mark™ Garlic Powder, Member's Mark™ Fine Ground Black Pepper, and Member's Mark™ Sea Salt together in a bowl until the dressing is creamy, about 30 seconds. Store dressing in a 1-quart jar in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Shake before serving.
