The Smash Burger Taco is a viral food trend that creatively combines two popular foods: burgers and tacos- resulting in a delicious handheld dish that’s easy to make and full of flavor.

At the heart of the Smash Burger Taco is the “smash” technique. This method involves pressing a ball of ground beef directly onto a heated tortilla, flattening it with a spatula or burger press. This approach creates a thin, crispy layer of beef that adheres to the tortilla as it cooks, delivering the signature texture of a smash burger. The meat cooks quickly, developing a rich, caramelized crust while the tortilla absorbs the beef’s juices and becomes perfectly crisp.

Once the beef is cooked, toppings can be added to create a taco-like experience. This recipe calls for special sauce, American cheese, shredded lettuce, and sliced red onions as toppings. Other popular toppings include diced tomatoes, pickle slices, and bacon—reminiscent of the traditional burger toppings everyone loves.

Smash Burger Tacos offer a playful twist on both burgers and tacos, making them a hit at gatherings, barbecues, or even family dinners. Their simplicity and versatility allow for endless customization, whether you prefer classic cheeseburger toppings or want to get creative with spicy salsas, guacamole, or other taco-inspired garnishes.

These tacos are a great way to enjoy the best of both worlds—juicy burger flavors with the convenience of a taco. They’re easy to prepare at home, making them a favorite among food lovers looking for something different yet satisfying.

While this recipe is great as a stand alone, if you’re looking for a side, we suggest these delicious Weber® Garlic Parmesan Smashed Potatoes (plus they fall within the “smash” theme)!
