This Sushi Bake recipe is a deconstructed, casserole-style version of sushi. It combines the flavors of a traditional sushi roll but eliminates the need for rolling, making it an easy and shareable dish.
A sushi bake typically consists of:
Sushi Rice – Cooked short-grain rice seasoned with rice vinegar, sugar, and salt.
Seafood Mixture – A creamy topping made with shredded imitation crab (or real crab), shredded salmon, mayonnaise, cream cheese, and sriracha. Variations may include salmon, tuna, or shrimp. Find one of our favorite salmon recipes here.
Seasonings & Toppings – Furikake (Japanese rice seasoning), Einstein Bros. Bagels™ Everything Bagel Seasoning, sriracha mayo, chopped green onions, and sometimes avocado.
The secret ingredient of the recipe is the Einstein Bros. Bagels™ Everything Bagel Seasoning. It has the sesame seeds most sushi bakes have, but also adds a touch of flavor with dried onion, dried garlic, salt, and poppy seeds. Find Einstein Bros. Bagels™ Everything Bagel Seasoning at Sam’s Club, in store or online.
How is it Made?
The rice is spread in a baking dish, followed by sprinkling with furikake. Next add the seafood mixture on top, the dish is baked at 400°F for 15 minutes until slightly golden and bubbly.
How is it Served?
Sushi bake is typically served with roasted seaweed sheets (nori). Scoop a portion of the warm, creamy mixture onto a piece of nori and eat it like a hand-held sushi bite. It’s often drizzled with spicy mayo or eel sauce for extra flavor. If you’re not a nori person, you can always eat it by itself, like a sushi casserole.
Why is it Popular?
Sushi bake is easy to prepare, customizable, and perfect for sharing, making it a favorite for potlucks, family meals, and gatherings. It’s a fusion dish that blends classic sushi flavors with the comfort of a baked casserole! It can be a snack, a meal, or a party appetizer.
