What is Agua Fresca?
Agua fresca (which is Spanish for “fresh water”) is a light, non-alcoholic beverage made by blending fresh fruit, water, and a bit of sugar, sometimes with lime juice. It’s popular throughout Mexico and Central America and often served chilled over ice.
What are the Health Benefits of Coconut Water?
Think of coconut water as nature’s sports drink! Coconut water is the clear liquid inside young, green coconuts. It’s naturally low in calories and has several health benefits, especially when consumed unsweetened and in moderation:
1. Hydration
-
High in electrolytes like potassium, magnesium, sodium, and calcium.
-
Helps replenish fluids lost through sweat, making it great after exercise or in hot climates.
2. Rich in Potassium
-
Contains more potassium than a banana (about 600 mg per cup).
-
Supports heart health and helps regulate blood pressure.
3. Low in Calories and Sugar
-
Naturally low-calorie and has less sugar than most fruit juices or sodas (unless sweetened versions are used).
-
May support weight management when used as a soda alternative.
4. Supports Healthy Skin
-
Hydration from the inside can promote skin elasticity and a healthy glow.
-
Contains cytokinins (plant hormones) that may have anti-aging and anti-inflammatory effects.
5. May Help Lower Blood Pressure
-
The potassium and magnesium content can help reduce high blood pressure in some people, especially when combined with a healthy diet.
6. Gentle on the Stomach
-
Often used to relieve mild digestive issues, like indigestion or nausea.
-
Non-acidic and easy to tolerate.
How to Make Honey Syrup
Honey syrup is a simple, versatile sweetener made by mixing honey with water. It’s easier to stir into cold drinks (like cocktails, teas, or lemonades) than straight honey, which can be thick and sticky.
Ingredients:
-
1 part honey
-
1 part water (for standard syrup)
Optional: Use 2 parts honey to 1 part water for a richer syrup.
Instructions:
-
Combine honey and water in a small saucepan or jar.
-
Warm gently (on the stove or microwave) and stir until fully combined.
– No need to boil—just warm enough to help the honey dissolve. -
Cool and store in a sealed jar in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
