When you’re looking to add an extra touch of deliciousness to your holiday meal, don’t forget the gravy! Whether you’re serving chicken, turkey, or another traditional favorite, this Classic Gravy recipe is the perfect dinner accompaniment – and it comes together in minutes (no drippings required)!

This recipe uses Member’s Mark™ Chicken Base, which is a wonderfully easy way to make gravy, as well as soups and stews.  Looking for more ideas on how to use chicken base?  Check these out!

1. Broth or Stock Substitute

  • To Make Broth: Mix 1 teaspoon of chicken base with 1 cup of hot water. Stir until dissolved.
  • Use it in recipes that call for chicken broth or stock, like soups, stews, risottos, or sauces.

2. Flavor Enhancer

  • Add directly to dishes such as:
    • Soups and Stews: Stir into the pot for a deeper chicken flavor.
    • Gravies and Sauces: Mix into gravies or pan sauces for a savory boost.
    • Rice, Pasta, or Grains: Dissolve in the cooking water for extra flavor.

3. Marinades and Rubs

  • Mix with oil, herbs, and spices to create a marinade.
  • Rub a small amount directly onto chicken or vegetables before cooking.

4. Savory Dips or Spreads

  • Add to cream cheese, sour cream, or mayonnaise for a flavorful dip.
  • Mix with butter for a savory compound butter.

Basically, wherever you use chicken broth, stock, our bouillon, you can replace it with chicken base!

Gravy Tips:

  • For a richer gravy, substitute some of the water with milk or cream.
  • If the gravy is too thick, add more water or broth; if it’s too thin, simmer a bit longer.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups + ½ cup Water, divided
  • tbsp Member's Mark™ Chicken Base
  • cup Corn starch
  • Member's Mark™ Black Pepper Grinder, as desired

Instructions
 

  • In a large saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
  • Add Member's Mark™ Chicken Base to boiling water and whisk to incorporate. Reduce heat to simmer.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together corn starch and ½ cup cold water to make slurry.
  • Bring stovetop heat to medium and slowly add corn starch slurry to the saucepan. Continually stir until gravy thickens, approximately 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat. Add Member's Mark™ Black Pepper Grinder, as desired.
