Edamame is scrumptious, but kind of an afterthought when it comes to meals. Not anymore! This edamame recipe is made in the air fryer (resulting in the perfect crispness), and sprinkled with Mighty Salt™ (resulting in a truly amazing taste that you have to try for yourself)!
What is Edamame?
Edamame are young, green soybeans that are typically harvested before they fully mature. They’re usually boiled or steamed and served in their pods, often sprinkled with salt. Edamame is popular in East Asian cuisines, especially Japanese, Chinese, and Korean, and is often eaten as a snack, appetizer, or side dish.
Nutritionally, edamame is high in protein, fiber, and several vitamins and minerals like folate, vitamin K, and iron. It’s considered a healthy, plant-based protein source.
What Do You Serve Them With?
Edamame is super versatile! Here are some common foods and dishes you can serve it with:
-
Japanese dishes like sushi, ramen, or teriyaki chicken
-
Rice dishes like fried rice or poke bowls
-
Salads, either tossed into a green salad or a cold noodle salad
-
Grilled meats like chicken, beef skewers, or salmon
-
Dim sum or dumplings as part of a broader appetizer spread
-
Asian-style small plates like gyoza, tempura, or seaweed salad
-
Simple snacks like a cheese board or veggie platter, where edamame adds a healthy, salty option
You can also season edamame differently — with chili flakes, garlic, sesame oil, or soy sauce.
Why Cook Them in the Air Fryer?
Cooking edamame in the air fryer has a few big advantages:
-
Texture: The air fryer gives edamame a slightly crispy, roasted texture on the outside while keeping the inside tender — a different (and delicious) experience compared to simply steaming or boiling.
-
Flavor: Air frying can intensify the flavors, especially if you toss the edamame in oil, salt, garlic, chili flakes, or other seasonings before cooking.
-
Speed: It’s very quick — usually takes about 12 minutes at 400°F — and no need to wait for water to boil.
-
Less mess: You don’t have to deal with a pot of water or steaming baskets. Cleanup is usually just the air fryer basket.
-
Healthier roasting: You can get a roasted effect with much less oil than you would need in a regular oven or frying pan.
It’s a great method if you want a snack that’s fast, healthy, and more exciting than plain boiled edamame.
