Tips for Cooking Drumsticks in an Air Fryer
Cooking drumsticks in an air fryer is a quick and easy way to get crispy, juicy results without deep frying. Here are some top tips to help you get perfect air-fried drumsticks:
Prep Tips
-
Pat Dry: Use paper towels to dry the drumsticks. This helps the skin get crispier.
-
Season Generously: Use a spice rub or marinade. A simple mix of salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and a bit of oil works great. Or in this case, Member’s Mark™ Sweet Applewood Seasoning!
-
Optional: Marinate: Letting the drumsticks marinate for 30 minutes to a few hours (in the fridge) can enhance flavor.
Cooking Tips
-
Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat to 375°F (190°C) for even cooking.
-
Don’t Overcrowd: Leave space between drumsticks so air can circulate and crisp the skin.
-
Cook Time:
-
375°F (190°C) for 22–25 minutes, flipping halfway.
-
Increase to 400°F (200°C) for the last 3–5 minutes if you want extra crispy skin.
-
-
Check Internal Temp: Use a meat thermometer. Chicken should reach 165°F internally, but 175–180°F is better for drumsticks (more tender and juicy).
Bonus Tips
-
Use Baking Powder (Optional): Adding a tiny bit of baking powder to your dry rub helps get ultra-crispy skin.
-
Glaze or Sauce? Add BBQ sauce, buffalo sauce, or honey garlic glaze in the last 3–4 minutes of cooking to avoid burning.
-
Let Rest: Let drumsticks rest for 5 minutes before serving for juicier meat.
